Founded in 1987, the Seattle Film Institute (SFI) is a nonprofit educational institution dedicated to providing a comprehensive, hands-on education in filmmaking and related disciplines. SFI offers both degree and non-degree programs, with an emphasis on practical experience and personal attention.

SFI’s programs are designed to give students the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the ever-changing world of film and video. The institute’s curriculum covers all aspects of filmmaking, from writing and directing to cinematography and editing. In addition to classroom instruction, students have the opportunity to work on real-world projects, such as short films, music videos, and commercials.

SFI’s faculty is made up of working professionals who are passionate about teaching and mentoring the next generation of filmmakers. The institute’s small class sizes allow for individualized attention, and SFI’s location in the heart of Seattle’s vibrant film community provides students with ample networking opportunities.

Since its inception, SFI has graduated thousands of students who have gone on to successful careers in the film and video industry. alumni have worked on Oscar-winning films, Emmy-winning television shows, and Grammy-winning albums. They have also gone on to launch their own production companies, write and direct their own films, and teach filmmaking at the collegiate level.
