Founded in 1881 by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, the university's main campus is located on 154 acres (62 ha) of land near downtown San Antonio. UIW also operates a satellite campus in Mexico and an online education program. The university offers associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in a variety of disciplines through its five colleges.
