Tusculum University is a small, private, coeducational university located in Tusculum, Tennessee. It is the oldest university in Tennessee and the 28th oldest in the United States. The university is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and offers bachelor's and master's degrees in a variety of disciplines.
Tusculum was founded in 1794 as Greeneville College, making it the oldest university in Tennessee and the 28th oldest in the United States. The school was named for Revolutionary War hero Nathanael Greene. The original campus was located in what is now downtown Greeneville. In 1806, the college relocated to its current location on a hill overlooking the town.
