The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is a public research university in El Paso, Texas. It is a member of the University of Texas System. UTEP is the second-largest university in the U.S. to have a majority Mexican-American student body (about 80%). The school has a highly diverse student body, with students from all 50 states and more than 100 countries.

UTEP was founded in 1914 as the State School of Mines and Metallurgy. It became a part of the University of Texas System in 1948. The university has grown rapidly in recent years, with its enrollment doubling since 2000. UTEP is classified as a Tier One research university by the Carnegie Foundation, and it is home to a number of research centers and institutes.

The university offers more than 140 undergraduate and graduate programs in a wide range of disciplines. UTEP is particularly well-known for its engineering, education, and business programs.
