Admission Requirements
The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston (UTMB) is a public academic health science center in Galveston, Texas. It is part of the University of Texas System. UTMB includes the oldest medical school in Texas, and is one of four health science centers in the UT System. It consists of five schools: the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, the School of Health Professions, the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, and the Sealy Center for Vaccine Development.
UTMB is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award baccalaureate, master's, doctoral, and professional degrees. The School of Medicine is accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. The School of Nursing is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
In order to be considered for admission to UTMB, applicants must meet the following requirements:
1. Submit a completed application form and fee.
2. Arrange to have official transcripts sent from all colleges and universities previously attended.
3. Take the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
4. Submit three letters of recommendation.
5. Participate in an interview, if requested.
6. Meet the technical standards for admission, which are available upon request.
7. Be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States or Canada.
8. Be in good academic and disciplinary standing at all previous colleges and universities attended.
9. Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
10. Meet the prerequisite course requirements for the program to which you are applying.
11. If applicable, submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
12. If applicable, submit a Financial Declaration form.
13. If applicable, submit a copy of your Permanent Resident Card or other proof of legal status in the United States.
14. If applicable, submit a copy of your visa.
