Lipscomb University is a private Christian university in Nashville, Tennessee. The university is affiliated with the Churches of Christ. Lipscomb University was founded in 1891 by David Lipscomb and James A. Harding. The university was originally named Nashville Bible School. In 1917, the school was renamed David Lipscomb College, and in 1937, it was renamed Lipscomb College. Lipscomb University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The university offers bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees.
Lipscomb University's campus is located on a 106-acre site in Nashville's Belle Meade area. The campus includes over 50 buildings, including academic, administrative, and residential buildings. Lipscomb University's academic programs are organized into five colleges: the College of Bible and Ministry, the College of Business, the College of Education, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the College of Pharmacy. The university also operates a School of Nursing and a School of Music.
Lipscomb University's athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division I. The university's athletic teams are known as the Bisons. Lipscomb University's men's basketball team has won four conference championships and has made two NCAA tournament appearances. The university's women's basketball team has won nine conference championships and has made seven NCAA tournament appearances. Lipscomb University's baseball team has won five conference championships and has made three NCAA tournament appearances.
