Birmingham-Southern College is a private liberal arts college in Birmingham, Alabama. Founded in 1856 as the Southern University of Alabama, it is the state's oldest private college and the oldest of the twenty-two member institutions of the Consortium of Liberal Arts Colleges. The college enrolls approximately 1,200 students from more than 30 states and 20 countries.

Birmingham-Southern is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate degrees. The college is also a member of the Association of American Colleges and Universities, the Council of Independent Colleges, and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.

The college's campus is located on 280 acres (110 ha) of land in the historic Five Points South neighborhood of Birmingham. The campus includes several buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The college also owns and operates a 1,200-acre (490 ha) forest in Shelby County, Alabama, for environmental study and recreation.

Birmingham-Southern College was founded in 1856 as the Southern University of Alabama, the state's first private college. The college was originally located in Marion, Alabama, but moved to Birmingham in 1887. The college was renamed Birmingham-Southern College in 1919.

The college is affiliated with the United Methodist Church and is one of the twenty-two member institutions of the Consortium of Liberal Arts Colleges. The college enrolls approximately 1,200 students from more than 30 states and 20 countries.

The college offers more than 40 majors and 30 minors in the arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. The college also offers a Master of Arts in Teaching degree program.
