Xavier University is a private research university in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was founded in 1831 as a Catholic institution and is the oldest university in Ohio. The school is named after the Jesuit priest Saint Francis Xavier. Xavier University is the sixth-oldest Jesuit university in the United States and one of 28 member institutions of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities. The school is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

The university offers undergraduate and graduate programs in a variety of disciplines, including the arts and sciences, business, education, health sciences, law, and nursing. Xavier University has an enrollment of about 4,800 students, most of whom are undergraduates. The university is home to a number of research centers and institutes, including the Center for the Study of the American Dream, the Center for Catholic Education, the Center for Interfaith Dialogue, and the Williams College of Business.

Xavier University was founded in 1831 by Saint Francis Xavier, a Jesuit priest from Spain. The school was originally known as the Athenaeum of Ohio and was renamed Xavier University in 1930. The university began admitting women in 1969 and became co-educational in 1971.

Xavier University has a number of athletics teams, which compete in Division I of the NCAA. The university's sports teams are nicknamed the Musketeers. The university's men's basketball team has won the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament four times.
