Valdosta State University, located in the city of Valdosta in the U.S. state of Georgia, is a public university and part of the University System of Georgia. It is also the largest member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges. The school was founded in 1906 as a normal school to train teachers, and has since grown into a comprehensive university with over 11,000 students enrolled in bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The university's main campus is located on a 137-acre (0.55 km2) campus in the heart of Valdosta. The campus is home to over 50 buildings, including the Fine Arts Building, the Science Complex, West Hall, and the Student Union Building. The campus also features a number of green spaces, including a pond and an 18-hole golf course. The university also has a branch campus in nearby Albany, Georgia.
The university offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as a number of professional programs. Valdosta State University is a member of the NCAA Division II and competes in the Gulf South Conference. The university's athletic teams are known as the Blazers. The university's men's basketball team has won two Division II national championships, in 2004 and 2011.
