The University of West Florida (UWF) is a public university in Pensacola, Florida. The university is a member of the State University System of Florida and is one of twelve accredited state universities. UWF is home to the John C. Pace Library, which is the largest public library in the northwest Florida region. The university offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as a doctorate in nursing practice.
UWF was founded in 1963 as the Pensacola Junior College. The college was renamed the University of West Florida in 1974 and became a state university in 1976. The university has grown rapidly in recent years, with a current enrollment of over 12,000 students. UWF is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
