Susquehanna University is a private, coeducational, liberal arts college in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, United States, in the Susquehanna Valley 70 miles (110 km) northwest of Harrisburg in central Pennsylvania. The university is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Founded in 1858 as a Baptist institution, Susquehanna University is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). The university offers bachelor's degrees in over 40 majors. Susquehanna University is situated on 500 acres (2.0 km2) of land.
The university's first president was Benjamin Kurtz. Kurtz was the primary founder of Susquehanna University and its first faculty member. He was also its first treasurer, first registrar, and first librarian. In 1873, the university became the first coeducational institution in Pennsylvania. In 1893, Susquehanna University enrolls its first international student, from China.
As of 2020, Susquehanna University has an undergraduate student body of 2,200. The university offers over 40 majors leading to a Bachelor of Arts or a Bachelor of Science degree. Susquehanna University is also home to over 60 student organizations, including Greek organizations, academic clubs, intramural sports, and special interest groups. The university also offers a number of study abroad programs.
The Susquehanna River runs through the campus, which includes a number of buildings of architectural note. The university has a number of athletic teams which compete in the NCAA Division III Landmark Conference. The university's mascot is the Crusader.
