Southwestern Oklahoma State University is a public university in Weatherford, Oklahoma. The university is part of the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education. SWOSU was founded in 1901 as Southwestern State Normal School. It became Southwestern State Teachers College in 1919 and Southwestern Oklahoma State College in 1965. The university has an enrollment of approximately 6,000 students.

SWOSU offers bachelor's and master's degrees in a variety of disciplines. The university is organized into five colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business, the College of Education and Professional Studies, the College of Nursing and Allied Health, and the Graduate College.

SWOSU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The university's athletics teams compete in the NCAA Division II Great American Conference. The SWOSU Bulldogs have won two national championships in rodeo.
