Shorter University is a private, coeducational university located in Rome, Georgia, United States. The university is affiliated with the Georgia Baptist Convention. Shorter offers bachelor's and master's degrees in business, education, nursing, and the liberal arts. The school was founded in 1873 as Shorter College, and was named for Bishop Francis Asbury Shorter, a founder of the Georgia Baptist Convention. The college was originally located in Little River Canyon in Alabama. In 1950, the college moved to its current location in Rome. In 2013, Shorter University was ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the 176th best university in the South. The school has an enrollment of 1,377 students.
