Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania is a public university in Shippensburg, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1871 as a normal school, it is the fifth-oldest state-related institution of higher learning in Pennsylvania and one of the 50 oldest in the United States. Shippensburg has been accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education since 1921 and is a member of the Association of Pennsylvania State Colleges and Universities (APSCU). The university offers bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degrees in more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs. The campus consists of more than 200 acres (0.81 km2) with more than 50 buildings. The university is one of 14 schools that make up the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE).
