Saint Leo University is a private Catholic university in Florida with its main campus in the town of Saint Leo, 35 miles north of Tampa. It was established in 1889 by the Order of Saint Benedict of Florida. The university is one of 28 member institutions of the Association of Benedictine Colleges and Universities.
Saint Leo enrolls students at the traditional University Campus, at more than 40 education centers and offices, and through its online degree programs. The university offers associate's, bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in a variety of disciplines, including business, criminal justice, education, nursing, and psychology.
Saint Leo is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award degrees at the baccalaureate and master's levels. The university is also a member of the Florida Consortium of Catholic Colleges and Universities, the Council of Independent Colleges, and the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities.
Saint Leo University's main campus is located on 100 acres of land in the rolling hills of central Florida. The campus features several academic and administrative buildings, a library, a student center, a fitness center, and residence halls.
The university's athletic teams, known as the Lions, compete in the NCAA Division II Sunshine State Conference. The Lions field teams in men's and women's basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, and track and field. The university also has a co-ed cheerleading squad and a dance team.
