Pennsylvania State University-Penn State Berks is a four-year public university located in Reading, Pennsylvania. The university is one of twenty-four campuses of the Pennsylvania State University System. Berks is a baccalaureate and residential campus with approximately 1,700 undergraduate students. The university is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
The university offers fifty-six undergraduate majors leading to the Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees. In addition, Penn State Berks offers a cooperative education program and thirteen minors. The most popular majors at the university include business, communications, psychology, and biology.
The university is home to a number of student organizations, including fraternities and sororities, academic clubs and societies, and service and leadership organizations. Penn State Berks also has a strong athletics program, with eight men's and eight women's teams competing at the NCAA Division III level. The university's teams are known as the Berks Nittany Lions.
Penn State Berks was founded in 1958 as the Berks Technical Institute. The institute was renamed the Reading Center of The Pennsylvania State University in 1962 and became a four-year institution in 1965. The university has undergone several name changes since its founding, most recently becoming Penn State Berks in 1998.
