Oregon Health & Science University is a public research university in Oregon. It was founded in 1887 as the University of Oregon Medical Department and became a degree-granting institution in 1974. The university is also a major center for medical research and education.

The university is located on a hill above downtown Portland, with the main campus occupying approximately 170 acres. The campus is home to five major hospitals, as well as the OHSU School of Medicine, the OHSU School of Nursing, the OHSU School of Dentistry, and the OHSU School of Public Health.

The university is a major employer in the Portland metropolitan area, with over 10,000 employees. It is also the largest recipient of research funding in Oregon, with over $500 million in annual research expenditures.

Oregon Health & Science University is a member of the Association of American Universities and is ranked among the top 100 research universities in the United States.
