Oklahoma Christian University (OC) is a private, coeducational university located in Oklahoma City, in the U.S. state of Oklahoma. The university is affiliated with the Churches of Christ. OC offers more than 80 undergraduate majors, graduate programs in business, engineering, ministry, and nursing, and pre-professional programs in law and medicine. The school's 1,300-acre (5.3 km2) campus is home to more than 2,000 students from more than 40 states and 50 countries.
Oklahoma Christian University was founded in 1950 by the merger of two institutions: Oklahoma Christian College, founded in 1950, and Central Christian College, founded in 1949. The two schools were founded by the Disciples of Christ. The university's founding president was A. C. Hamill, who served from 1950 to 1957. The school's second president was J. O. Boswell, who served from 1957 to 1961.
The school's third president was W. P. Blake, who served from 1961 to 1963. The school's fourth president was James O. Baird, who served from 1963 to 1967. The school's fifth president was Leslie H. Cochran, who served from 1967 to 1971. The school's sixth president was J. Howard Smith, who served from 1971 to 1975. The school's seventh president was W. Maxey Jarman, who served from 1975 to 1979.
The school's eighth president was R. Keith Haskins, who served from 1979 to 1985. The school's ninth president was D. Lynn Garland, who served from 1985 to 1997. The school's tenth president was John deSteiguer, who served from 1997 to 2013. The school's current president is John deSteiguer, who has served since 2013.
Oklahoma Christian University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The university is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. The school's athletic teams compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. The university's men's sports teams include baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, and track and field. The university's women's sports teams include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.
