Ohio Christian University is a private, four-year, coeducational university located in Circleville, Ohio, United States. The university is affiliated with the Restoration Movement of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of liberal arts, business, ministry, and professional studies.
Founded in 1948 as Mount Vernon Bible College, the institution moved to Circleville in 1950 and was renamed Circleville Bible College. In 1981, the college was renamed Ohio Christian College, and in 2000, the institution attained university status and became Ohio Christian University. The university's main campus covers approximately 200 acres (0.81 km2) and includes academic, residential, and athletic facilities.
Ohio Christian University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and offers over 50 undergraduate and graduate programs. The university's athletic teams, known as the Trailblazers, compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and are members of the Mid-South Conference.
Ohio Christian University was founded in 1948 as Mount Vernon Bible College by a group of pastors and laymen from the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mount Vernon, Ohio. The college's first class consisted of just over 100 students and was held in the basement of the First Christian Church. In 1950, the college moved to Circleville, Ohio, and was renamed Circleville Bible College. The college purchased a former public school building and grounds, which became its main campus.
The college experienced significant growth in the 1960s and 1970s, and in 1981, the college was renamed Ohio Christian College. The college began offering a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1984. In 2000, the college attained university status and became Ohio Christian University.
