Nicholls State University is a public university in Thibodaux, Louisiana. It is part of the University of Louisiana System. Nicholls State University was founded in 1948 as Francis T. Nicholls Junior College. It was named after Francis T. Nicholls, a former governor of Louisiana and member of the Louisiana Supreme Court. The college was originally part of the South Louisiana Community College System. In 1974, the college became a four-year institution and was renamed Nicholls State University. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Nicholls State University offers bachelor's and master's degrees in a variety of fields. The university has an enrollment of approximately 7,500 students.
