New Jersey Institute of Technology is a public research university in Newark, New Jersey. Founded in 1881 as Newark Technical School, NJIT opened its doors in 1885 with 88 students enrolled in six courses. NJIT is a member of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU) and the Association of American Universities (AAU).
