New College of Florida is a public liberal arts college in Sarasota, Florida. It is one of forty colleges and universities in the State University System of Florida and is a member institution of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida. Founded as a private institution in 1960, it is now a public college of the State University System of Florida. New College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The college offers bachelor's degrees in arts, sciences, and interdisciplinary studies, and is one of only two Florida state universities to offer a bachelor's degree in the liberal arts. The college has an enrollment of about 1,400 students, and its student-to-faculty ratio of 11:1 is the lowest of any public university in Florida. The college is ranked as the 38th best public liberal arts college in the nation by U.S. News & World Report.
