Midway University is a small, private, non-profit institution located in the heart of Kentucky's Bluegrass Region. The university was founded in 1847 by Dr. John Bowman as the Kentucky Female Orphan School. Midway's main campus is situated on 200 acres of land in the historic town of Midway, Kentucky. The university also has a satellite campus in Lexington, Kentucky. Midway University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate's, bachelor's, and master's degrees.

The Kentucky Female Orphan School was founded in 1847 by Dr. John Bowman. The school was established for the education of orphaned girls in the Bluegrass Region. The school was renamed Midway College in 1887. The college began admitting men in 1931 and became coeducational. In 2016, the college changed its name to Midway University.

Midway University offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. The university's most popular majors include business, education, nursing, and equine studies. Midway University is also home to the Kentucky Equine Management Internship program, the only accredited internship program of its kind in the United States.

Midway University has a strong commitment to athletics. The university is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and competes in the Mid-South Conference. Midway University's athletic teams include men's and women's basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field. The university also has a competitive equestrian team that competes in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).
