Admission Requirements

Admission to Michigan School of Psychology (MSP) is based on a review of the applicant’s undergraduate and, if applicable, graduate academic record, letters of recommendation, a personal statement, and, if applicable, a writing sample. The Admissions Committee is looking for evidence of the ability to succeed in a rigorous academic program as well as evidence of motivation and commitment to the field of psychology.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required for admission to MSP. Applicants with a degree in psychology from an accredited institution will have completed most of the prerequisite coursework for the program and will be given priority in the admissions process. Applicants with a degree in a related field may be considered for admission if they have completed the required prerequisite coursework.

MSP requires a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for admission consideration. Applicants with a GPA below 3.0 may be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis.

All applicants must submit official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Applicants who have not yet completed their undergraduate degree must submit an official transcript showing all coursework completed to date as well as a copy of their degree progress report.

Applicants must submit three letters of recommendation. At least two of the letters must be from individuals who can speak to the applicant’s academic ability. Letters from employers, family members, or friends are not accepted.

The personal statement is an opportunity for applicants to discuss their motivation for pursuing a career in psychology, their professional goals, and any other information that would be helpful in evaluating their application.

Applicants may be asked to submit a writing sample as part of the admissions process. The writing sample should be an academic paper written for a course.

MSP does not offer conditional admission. All applicants must meet the admission requirements prior to being accepted into the program.

Applicants who are not residents of the United States or Canada must submit a TOEFL or IELTS score as part of the admissions process. A minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL or 6.5 on the IELTS is required for admission consideration.
