Founded in 1833, Mercer University is a private research university with its main campus in Macon, Georgia, United States. With over 8,600 students, Mercer is the largest independent university in Georgia and has branch campuses in Atlanta and Savannah. The school also operates the Mercer Medicine health sciences center in Macon and Atlanta, as well as teaching hospitals. The university has four colleges and schools: the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Walter F. George School of Law, the Tift College of Education, and the Townsend School of Music.
Mercer is a member of the Georgia Research Alliance and has a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. The university has been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top universities in the South and is also included in the Princeton Review's Best Southeastern Colleges. The Mercer Bears compete in NCAA Division I athletics.
