Louisiana Tech University is a public research university in Ruston, Louisiana. The university is a member of the University of Louisiana System and is categorized as a Tier One research university by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. Louisiana Tech is the largest university in North Louisiana and the fourth-largest in the state.

Founded in 1894 as the Industrial Institute and College of Louisiana, the university was created by an act of the Louisiana Legislature under the direction of then-Governor Murphy J. Foster. The original mission of the university was to train students in the "industrial arts" and prepare them for careers in the growing field of technology.

Over the years, Louisiana Tech has evolved into a comprehensive university offering degrees in a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, business, science, liberal arts, and education. The university is also home to Louisiana Tech University Health Sciences Center, which includes schools of medicine, nursing, and allied health.

Louisiana Tech is a nationally-ranked university, and its programs in engineering, business, and computer science are particularly well-regarded. The university is also home to a number of research centers and institutes, including the Center for Advanced Microstructures and Devices, the Louisiana Tech Research Institute, and the Cyber Innovation Center.
