Lock Haven University is a public university in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. It is one of fourteen schools in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). The university traces its roots back to 1870 when the school was founded as a normal school, a type of teaching college. The school became a state teachers college in 1927 and began offering a four-year degree in 1930. In 1983, the school was renamed Lock Haven University. The university offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Lock Haven University is located in the town of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, in the central part of the state. The university sits on a bluff overlooking the Susquehanna River. The campus is made up of a mix of old and new buildings. The oldest building on campus, Price Hall, was built in 1887. The university also has a number of athletic facilities, including a football stadium, a basketball arena, and a golf course.
The university has about 4,000 students enrolled in its undergraduate and graduate programs. The undergraduate programs are divided into four colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education, the College of Business, and the College of Health Sciences. Lock Haven University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The university’s athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division II. The university’s football team has won two national championships, in 1959 and 1963. The university’s men’s basketball team has also won a national championship, in 1979.
