Founded in 1963, Kennesaw State University is a public research university in Georgia with two main campuses in Kennesaw and Marietta. It is the third-largest university in the state of Georgia and the largest public university in the Atlanta metropolitan area. The university enrolls more than 35,000 students and offers more than 150 undergraduate and graduate degrees. Kennesaw State University is a member of the University System of Georgia and is classified as a Doctoral/Research University by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.

The university's athletic teams, known as the Owls, compete in Division I of the NCAA and are members of the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Owls have won national championships in softball and cheerleading.

Kennesaw State University was founded in 1963 as Kennesaw Junior College. It was established to meet the growing need for higher education in the north Georgia region. The college enrolled its first class of students in 1964. In 1966, the college was renamed Kennesaw College, and in 1976 it became a four-year institution. In 1985, the school was renamed Kennesaw State University. The university has experienced significant growth in recent years, and its two main campuses now cover more than 1000 acres.

The university offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs. Its most popular majors include business, education, nursing, and health sciences. Kennesaw State University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
