High Point University is a private liberal arts university in High Point, North Carolina. It is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Founded as High Point College in 1924, it became High Point University in October 1991. HPU offers 47 undergraduate majors, 51 undergraduate minors and 12 graduate-level degree programs. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. It is a member of the NCAA Division I and the Big South Conference. High Point University was founded in 1924 as the High Point College by Dr. James O. Kinard and Rev. Julius C. Dowell. The campus was originally located on the current site of the Piedmont Triad International Airport. The college moved to its current location in 1934. The school was accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1942 and became a member of the NCAA Division I in 1999. The school offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs.
