Gordon State College is a public four-year university in Barnesville, Georgia. It is part of the University System of Georgia and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The school was founded in 1852 as a male-only institution and began admitting women in 1969. It offers bachelor's and associate's degrees in a variety of fields, as well as a master's degree in education. The school's athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division II and are known as the Highlanders. The school's colors are green and gold, and its mascot is a scottish terrier named Gordy.
