Frontier Nursing University is a private, non-profit university located in the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky. The university offers a unique curriculum for registered nurses and nurse-midwives that emphasizes primary care and family health. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

The university was founded in 1939 by Mary Breckinridge, a nurse-midwife who saw the need for a school that would train nurses to provide care to rural families. The university's first class graduated in 1941.

Today, Frontier Nursing University is a leading provider of online nursing education, with students in all 50 states and more than 20 countries. The university offers a variety of degree and certificate programs, including a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.
