Bryn Athyn College of the New Church is a small, private, coeducational college located in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania, about 20 miles north of Philadelphia. The college is affiliated with the General Church of the New Jerusalem, also known as the New Church, and all of its students are required to take courses in the New Church teachings. The college was founded in 1877 as the Bryn Athyn Collegiate Institute by John Pitcairn, a wealthy businessman and one of the founders of the New Church in America. The college's original mission was to prepare young men for the ministry, but it began admitting women in 1894 and now offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. Bryn Athyn College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
