ERAU-Worldwide was founded in 1926 as Embry-Riddle Company, an aviation school and flight training provider. In 1940, the company was purchased by Lawrence D. Bell and renamed Bell Aircraft Institute. In 1965, the institute was renamed Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. In 1978, the university began offering degree programs and expanded its curriculum to include aerospace engineering and business administration. In 1984, the university established a campus in Prescott, Arizona. In 1991, the university opened a campus in Daytona Beach, Florida. In 1993, the university became a member of the National Association of Colleges and Universities (NACU). In 1996, the university began offering online courses. In 1999, the university established a campus in Hong Kong. In 2001, the university was accredited by the SACSCOC. In 2002, the university established a campus in Singapore. In 2004, the university opened a campus in Dubai. In 2006, the university established a campus in Malaysia. In 2007, the university opened a campus in China. In 2010, the university began offering doctoral degrees. In 2012, the university established a campus in India. In 2014, the university opened a campus in Brazil. In 2015, the university opened a campus in South Africa.
