Coe College is a private, four-year, coeducational liberal arts college in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Founded in 1851, the college is one of the oldest colleges in the Midwest. Coe offers more than 50 majors and pre-professional programs, and is known for its strong programs in the sciences, business, and education. The college's academic calendar is semester-based, with four 10-week terms. Coe is a member of the Iowa Conference, a conference of the NCAA's Division III. The Kohawks are the college's athletic teams.

Cedar Rapids was founded in 1851 as a stop on the Cedar Rapids and Missouri River Railroad. The city was named after the rapids in the Cedar River, which were used by Native Americans for centuries to fish and harvest wild rice. The first settlers in Cedar Rapids were mostly from the eastern United States, and the city was initially developed as a sawmill town.

In 1854, the first school in Cedar Rapids was founded. The following year, the Cedar Rapids Academy was established. The academy was a private, coeducational school that offered a classical education. In 1858, the academy was renamed Coe College in honor of its first benefactor, Colonel Thomas C. Coe.
