Founded in 1961, Virginia Wesleyan University is a private, liberal arts university located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The university has an enrollment of approximately 1,500 students and offers over 30 majors and minors. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Virginia Wesleyan University was founded as a two-year college by the United Methodist Church. The college was originally located in Norfolk, Virginia and was named Norfolk Wesleyan College. In 1968, the college relocated to Virginia Beach and became a four-year institution. In 1972, the college was renamed Virginia Wesleyan College. In 1999, the college attained university status and was renamed Virginia Wesleyan University.

The university is situated on a 150-acre campus in Virginia Beach. The campus features several academic and administrative buildings, including the Batten Arts and Letters Building, the Bird Hall Science Building, the Eure Commons Student Center, the Hofheimer Library, the Larchmont Residence Halls, and the Virginia Beach Field House.

The university offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees. Undergraduate degrees are offered in the fields of Arts and Letters, Business, Education, Health Sciences, and Social Sciences. Graduate degrees are offered in the fields of Education, Health Sciences, and Business.

The university is home to several athletic teams, which compete in the NCAA Division III. The university’s athletic teams are nicknamed the Marlins. The university’s sports teams include baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.
