The University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law (commonly referred to as UDC Law) is the District of Columbia's public law school. It is one of only four public law schools in Washington, D.C. and one of only two ABA-accredited public law schools in the Washington metropolitan area. The school is named after former D.C. Mayor David A. Clarke.
UDC Law was founded in 1996 as a result of a merger between the District of Columbia School of Law and the University of the District of Columbia. The school is located in the Van Ness neighborhood of Washington, D.C., on the main campus of the University of the District of Columbia. The school offers a four-year Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree program as well as LL.M. and J.S.D. programs.
UDC Law has been accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) since 2001. The school is a member of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS).
UDC Law's clinical program is ranked as one of the best in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The school's Trial Advocacy program is also ranked by U.S. News & World Report.
The school's faculty includes nationally and internationally recognized scholars, teachers, and practitioners, including former D.C. Bar President Frederick D. Cooke Jr., former D.C. Court of Appeals Judge Inez Smith Reid, and former U.S. Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton.
UDC Law graduates have gone on to successful careers in law, government, business, and public service.
