The University of Southern Maine (USM) is a public university in the U.S. state of Maine. The university is part of the University of Maine System. It was founded in 1878 as a teacher-training school and later expanded into a liberal arts college. USM is the largest university in the state of Maine with an enrollment of over 10,000 students. The university offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as a number of professional and continuing education programs. USM is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
The university's main campus is located in Portland, Maine, with two additional campuses in Lewiston and Gorham. The Portland campus is home to the majority of the university's academic and administrative buildings, as well as the University of Maine School of Law. The Lewiston-Auburn campus is home to the university's School of Nursing and Health Professions, while the Gorham campus is home to the university's School of Education and Human Development.
USM is organized into six colleges: the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; the College of Science, Technology, and Health; the College of Business; the College of Education and Human Development; the Honors College; and the Graduate School. The university offers a wide variety of undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as a number of professional and continuing education programs.
