The University of South Dakota (USD) is a public university in the U.S. state of South Dakota. The university is located in Vermillion, in the southeastern part of the state. USD was established in 1862 and is the oldest university in the state. The university is a member of the South Dakota Board of Regents, which governs the state's six public universities. USD offers more than 200 undergraduate and 70 graduate programs. The university has an enrollment of over 10,000 students. USD is home to the National Music Museum, the W.O. Farber Center for the Study of the Sioux, and the Center for the Study of the Native American. The university's athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division I Summit League.
