The University of North Dakota (UND) is the state's oldest and largest university, located in the city of Grand Forks. UND was founded in 1883, just two years after the Dakota Territory was created, and has been a vital part of the state's history and culture ever since. UND is a comprehensive research university with over 200 undergraduate and graduate programs, and is home to the state's only medical school and law school. The university is also a major center for aerospace research and education, and is home to the John D. Odegard School of Aerospace Sciences. UND has a strong tradition of athletics, and its men's hockey team has won eight national championships. The university is also home to a thriving arts and culture scene, with a number of museums and performing arts venues on campus.
