The University of California-Irvine is a public research university located in Irvine, California. The university is one of the ten campuses of the University of California system, and is the only UC campus in the Orange County region. UC Irvine offers 87 undergraduate degrees and 129 graduate and professional degrees, and is classified as a Research I university by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. The university is known for its programs in medicine, law, and business, and is home to the UC Irvine School of Medicine, the UC Irvine School of Law, and the Paul Merage School of Business.

UC Irvine was founded in 1965 as the first new UC campus in over 40 years. The university was built on the site of the former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, which was decommissioned in 1999. UC Irvine is the youngest university in the UC system, and is known for its innovative and interdisciplinary approach to education. The university is home to a number of research institutes and centers, including the UC Irvine Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders, the UC Irvine Center for the Study of Democracy, and the UC Irvine Center for Virus Research.
