The College of Idaho was founded in 1891 by a group of pioneer settlers who were determined to provide higher education opportunities for the people of Idaho. The college's first president was George L. Rockwood, who served from 1891 to 1898. The college's first class consisted of only six students, but by the early 1900s, enrollment had grown to over 100 students.

In the early years, the college faced many challenges, including a devastating fire in 1901 that destroyed the main building. Despite these setbacks, the college continued to grow and prosper. In the 1920s, the college began to offer graduate programs, and in the 1930s, it became the first college in Idaho to offer a four-year bachelor's degree.

Today, the College of Idaho is a thriving institution of higher learning, offering a variety of undergraduate and graduate programs. The college is committed to providing a quality education at an affordable price, and its graduates are well-prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
