St. John's Seminary, located in the Brighton neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts, is a Catholic seminary affiliated with the Theological Institute of the New England Province of the Society of Jesus. It is the largest seminary in the United States, with an enrollment of over 200 seminarians. The seminary offers a five-year program of priestly formation leading to a Bachelor of Arts in Sacred Theology (STB) and a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree. The seminary also offers a three-year Master of Arts program in theological studies.
St. John's Seminary was founded in 1884 by the Jesuits of the New England Province. The seminary's first home was in the South End of Boston, but it relocated to its current location in the Brighton neighborhood in 1909. The seminary's main building, named after its founder, Archbishop John Williams, was completed in 1915.
The seminary has a long tradition of academic excellence, and its alumni include several cardinals and bishops, as well as a Nobel Laureate and a Pulitzer Prize winner.
