Southern States University (SSU) is a private, nonprofit university located in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. The university is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees. The university was founded in 1884 as the Southern Business College and later renamed to its current name in 1998. SSU offers over 50 undergraduate and graduate programs in business, education, engineering, nursing, and liberal arts. The university is home to the School of Business, the School of Education, the School of Engineering, the School of Nursing, and the College of Liberal Arts.
The Southern Business College was founded in 1884 by Dr. William H. Council. The college was originally located on Carondelet Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1898, the college was renamed the Southern Business University. In 1916, the university moved to its current location on Canal Street. In 1998, the university was renamed Southern States University.
The School of Business offers undergraduate and graduate programs in business administration, accounting, and marketing. The School of Education offers undergraduate and graduate programs in education, counseling, and human development. The School of Engineering offers undergraduate and graduate programs in engineering, computer science, and information technology. The School of Nursing offers undergraduate and graduate programs in nursing, health care administration, and public health. The College of Liberal Arts offers undergraduate and graduate programs in liberal arts, English, history, and psychology.
Southern States University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award associate, bachelor's, and master's degrees. The university is also a member of the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) and the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities (ACCU).
