Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, located in Edwardsville, Illinois, is a co-educational, public university offering graduate and undergraduate programs through its College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, School of Dental Medicine, School of Education, School of Engineering, School of Nursing, and School of Pharmacy. The University is the largest employer in Edwardsville, with over 2,500 faculty and staff, and a total enrollment of over 14,500 students.
Founded in 1957, SIUE is a member of the American Association of Universities and the Ohio Valley Conference. The University offers over 100 undergraduate programs and more than 50 graduate programs, including doctorates in Dental Medicine, Education, Nursing, and Pharmacy.
SIUE is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, and the School of Education is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
The University is located on 2,660 acres (10.7 km2) of land, including the 1,200-acre (4.9 km2) SIUE campus in Edwardsville. The campus is home to a variety of academic and administrative buildings, including the Lovejoy Library, the Morris University Center, the Science East and West Buildings, and the Vadalabene Center.
The University also owns and operates the SIUE East St. Louis Center, a satellite campus located in East St. Louis, Illinois. The East St. Louis Center offers programs and services to the residents of the Metro East region.
In addition to its academic programs, SIUE offers a variety of extracurricular activities and organizations, including athletics, fraternities and sororities, and student media. The SIUE Cougars compete in Division I of the NCAA and are members of the Ohio Valley Conference. The Cougars field 17 intercollegiate teams, including men's and women's basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, and track and field, and women's softball and volleyball.
The University is also home to a variety of student media organizations, including the student-run newspaper, The Alestle, and the student-run radio station, WSIU-FM.
