The San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI) is a private, non-profit college of contemporary art with the main campus in the Russian Hill district of San Francisco, California. It was founded in 1871 and is one of the oldest art schools in the United States. It is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.

The college offers Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degrees in nine different majors, Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degrees in six different majors, and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Interdisciplinary Studies. The college also has a low-residency MFA program in Paris and a summer art colony in Giverny, France.

The campus is located on two hills in an eclectic neighborhood of Victorian houses, high-end restaurants, and small businesses. The campus is also home to the Diego Rivera Gallery, which houses the largest collection of works by the Mexican artist outside of Mexico, as well as the Walter and McBean Galleries, which feature rotating exhibitions of contemporary art.

The school has a long history of producing influential artists, including Ansel Adams, Richard Diebenkorn, Robert Arneson, Joan Brown, and Robert Rauschenberg.
