The SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) is a public college in the State University of New York system. It is located in Syracuse, New York, USA and was founded in 1911. It is the oldest and largest college in the United States that is solely focused on the study of the environment. The college offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of environmental disciplines, including forestry, wildlife management, environmental science, and sustainable development.
The college's main campus is located on 687 acres (2.78 km2) of land near the edge of the city of Syracuse. The campus includes a mix of academic, administrative, and residential buildings, as well as extensive forest and wetland ecosystems. The college also operates a 2,000-acre (810 ha) field station in the Adirondack Mountains, and a 70-acre (28 ha) ecological research area in the Finger Lakes region.
ESF is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. It is also a land-grant college and a sea-grant college. The college's athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division III SUNYAC conference.
The college was founded in 1911 as the New York State College of Forestry, the first college in the United States to offer a bachelor's degree in forestry. The college was renamed the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in 1975.
The college offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Undergraduate programs include forestry, wildlife management, environmental science, and sustainable development.
