SUNY Buffalo State, located in Buffalo, New York, is a public college that is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system. The college was founded in 1871 as the Buffalo Normal School to train teachers. In 1926, the school became a state teachers college and was renamed the New York State Teachers College at Buffalo. In 1950, the college became a part of the SUNY system and was renamed Buffalo State College. The college offers more than 100 undergraduate and graduate programs in the arts and sciences, education, and professional studies.
SUNY Buffalo State is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The college's athletic teams compete in the NCAA Division III. The college's campus is located in the city of Buffalo, about 10 minutes from downtown.
