Founded in 1917, Providence College is a private, coeducational, Roman Catholic university located in Providence, Rhode Island. The school is the only college or university in North America administered by the Dominican Friars. The school has an undergraduate enrollment of approximately 4,000 students and offers bachelor's degrees in arts, sciences, and business. The college is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
Providence College's campus is located on College Hill, adjacent to the East Side of Providence. The campus is home to a variety of buildings, including Alumni Hall, Aquinas Hall, Harkins Hall, Roberts Hall, Slavin Center, and the Ruane Friar Development Center. The college also has a number of athletic facilities, including the Peterson Recreation Center, the Slavin Center Arena, and the Ray Treacy Track.
The college's academic programs are divided into four schools: the School of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business, the School of Professional Studies, and the School of Continuing Education. Within the School of Arts and Sciences, students can pursue bachelor's degrees in a variety of disciplines, including English, history, philosophy, political science, and sociology. The School of Business offers bachelor's degrees in accounting, finance, and marketing. The School of Professional Studies offers bachelor's degrees in education, nursing, and social work. The School of Continuing Education offers a variety of non-degree programs, including certificate programs and online courses.
Providence College is committed to providing a well-rounded education to its students. In addition to its academic programs, the college offers a number of extracurricular activities and clubs, including the College Democrats, the College Republicans, the Friars Club, and the Student Activities Board. The college also has a number of athletic teams, including the Friars men's basketball team, which has won the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament twice.
