The Presbyterian Theological Seminary in America (PTSA) is a Christian seminary in the Reformed tradition located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The seminary is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. PTSA offers four degree programs: the Master of Divinity, the Master of Arts in Biblical Studies, the Master of Arts in Christian Education, and the Doctor of Ministry.
The seminary was founded in 1837 as the Philadelphia Presbyterian Theological Seminary. The seminary's first president was the Rev. Dr. Samuel Miller, a leading figure in the Old School Presbyterian movement. The seminary's first class graduated in 1841. In 1864, the seminary moved to its current location on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. In 1925, the seminary was renamed the Presbyterian Theological Seminary in America.
PTSA is committed to the Reformed tradition of Christianity and seeks to train men and women for ministry in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and other Reformed denominations. The seminary's faculty includes scholars who are experts in a variety of theological disciplines. PTSA offers a rigorous academic program that includes courses in biblical studies, theology, church history, and practical ministry.
The seminary's campus is located in Philadelphia's University City neighborhood, adjacent to the campus of the University of Pennsylvania. PTSA is a member of the Philadelphia Consortium of Theological Schools, which includes eight other seminaries and divinity schools in the Philadelphia area.
