Philander Smith College is a small, private, historically black college located in Little Rock, Arkansas. The college was founded in 1877 by the Arkansas Baptist Education Society with the help of Arkansas Baptist minister Philander Smith. The college's original purpose was to educate African Americans who were not able to attend other colleges because of segregation. Philander Smith College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The college offers bachelor's degrees in business administration, biology, and psychology, as well as a master's degree in counseling.
